ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) Justice Yahya Afridi has recused himself from hearing the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) appeal challenging the bail granted to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shehbaz Sharif and ex-PM Nawaz Sharif’s principal secretary Fawad Hasan Fawad.

Justice Afridi was part of the three-member SC bench headed by Justice Azmat Saeed hearing the NAB appeal challenging a Lahore High Court (LHC) decision to grant bail to Shehbaz Sharif and Fawad Hassan Fawad in the Ashiana Housing Scheme case.

During the hearing on Thursday, Justice Afridi said that he is closely acquainted with Fawad Hasan Fawad, therefore he will be unable to continue sitting on the bench hearing the case against him.

The three-member bench hearing the case was disbanded after Justice Afridi’s recusal. Hearing on the NAB’s appeal would continue after a new bench is formed for the case.
