Citizens suffocate as Cyclone Vayu cuts off Karachi’s sea breeze

Citizens of the coastal city will continue to sizzle and bake until Saturday as the usual sea breeze that provides some respite from intense heat has been cut off by Cyclone Vayu, with temperatures expected to hover between 40 to 42 degrees Celsius.

The news was given by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) while experts and medics have advised citizens to take precaution against the rising temperatures by staying well hydrated and avoid going outdoors unnecessarily.

It is pertinent to mention here that Cyclone Vayu has intensified further in the East Arabian Sea. Over the last night, the cyclone has moved away from western India and is barreling towards north-northwestwards, 110 Km from the coast of Gujarat state.

The cyclone is expected to cause heavy rains and storm in Badin, Thatta, and Tharparkar on Thursday and Friday, while thundershowers are also expected in the rest of Sindh.

A high alert has been issued in Badin citing predictions of heavy rains.

The fishermen are advised not to venture in the open sea as the sea will remain extremely rough.

IGP Sindh Kaleem Imam has directed authorities to establish heat stroke units at the district level in Sindh.
