LAHORE: Despite spending the appropriate funds, the Government Special education Center in Mianwali has failed to meet its objectives whereas, the district education authority of Mianwali has not hired any teaching and supporting staff for the center, Pakistan Today learnt on Monday.

Pakistan Today also learnt that the said center was established in 2018 by with the purpose to provide educational facilities to school going children with disabilities at their doorstep and to bring them at par with special children of other tehsils of district Mianwali comprising Isa Khel and Piplan.

At the initial stage, the center was to cater to the educational needs of 50 students. To operate and carry out the project 21 posts were proposed with the addition of a rented building through district education authority.

“The vehicles for the center were procured but not in use whereas the teaching staff and supporting staff was not hired under this project. The staff must be hired on an immediate basis otherwise there is no utility of having all procured items. The department must proactively implement an effective outreach program, community sensitisation and awareness campaigns to ensure maximum coverage to school going special children and to achieve the target enrolled students but it is linked with recruitment. For overall quality service delivery, the department should ensure regular internal monitoring, supervision and quality assurance at the center,” sources said.

While talking to Pakistan Today, Mianwali of Government Special Education Center Focal Person Muhammad Hafeez said, “We have given advertisements for hiring and the hiring process will be completed soon”. However, he did not mention when.

Regarding the objectives of the center, he said, “We have achieved the target of enrolling the number of students”.
