BANNU: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday rejected a plea for extension in physical remand of MNA Mohsin Dawar by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and sent him on remand to Peshawar Central Prison.

The Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) leader was booked under various charges, including 7ATA (Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997), Pakistan Penal Code 302 (murder), 324 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 120b (criminal conspiracy), and 109 (abetment to an offence) after the May 26 Kharqamar checkpost incident in North Waziristan.

Dawar went into hiding following the incident in which at least 13 PTM supporters were reportedly killed in a clash with security forces. He later surrendered himself before the authorities on May 31.

During the hearing of the case, the court directed the CTD to produce Dawar again on June 19.

Following the hearing, Dawar was shifted to Peshawar Central Jail amid high security.

Earlier, the ATC handed Dawar to CTD officials on eight-day physical remand.

Earlier on Tuesday, an ATC sent another PTM leader Ali Wazir to Peshawar Central Jail on judicial remand.

Amid strict security arrangements, Wazir was produced before the ATC, where the magistrate on duty, Muhammad Shoaib, issued directives for his transfer to Peshawar Central Jail. Wazir’s medical check-up was also conducted at the District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital.
