Two cops killed in ‘encounter’ with robbers

SHIKARPUR: Two policemen were martyred and three injured on Sunday in an encounter against dacoits in Shah Belo area of Shikarpur.

According to police, Station House Officer Ghulam Murtaza Mirani of Ghulam Shah Police Station, and Assistant Sub Inspector Zulfikar Panhor were martyred in the shootout.

In the same encounter, three police officials were wounded.

A huge contingent of police was summoned and the area was cordoned off due to the encounter. Police told that armoured vehicles and 200 police officials were taking part in the police operation.

The hiding places of dacoits were razed to the ground, police said, adding that houses in the area are being searched as well.

Meanwhile, SSP Khairpur Umar Tufail said that Shah Hussain police has arrested a “notorious” criminal Sudheer Bhutto in injured condition, however, his accomplices managed to flee.

The police also recovered looted six tola gold, two cell phones, and cash from his possession.

He said arrested criminal was wanted to Khairpur police in a number of cases. Further investigation was underway, he added.

Separately, SHO B-Section police arrested a notorious robber Bhasheer Hussain Shah in injured condition after an encounter near Smung Bridge and recovered one TT pistol from his possession. However, his other accomplice escaped from the spot, said SSP.
