Senate body perturbed over delay in post-mortem report of Farishta

ISLAMABAD: The Senate’s Standing Committee on Interior on Thursday expressed concern over the delay in submitting post-mortem report of a child abuse victim girl Farishta and directed the inspector general of Islamabad police to include the relevant doctor in the investigations.

A meeting of the committee chaired by Senator A Rehman Malik said the committee has apprehensions over extraordinary delay in post-mortem report.

Farishta would be provided justice; he said and summoned the concerned doctor, who conducted the autopsy, in next committee meeting.

He vowed introducing drastic reforms in first information report registration (FIR) system.

A sub-committee comprising Rana Maqbool, Senator Javed Abbasi and IGP Islamabad was constituted to recommend reforms in FIRs within a week time.

The committee directed Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration to submit a complete list of illegal buildings, shopping malls, their encroachments in Islamabad to the committee.

The committee also recommended registration of FIR against the relevant officers of CDA on neglecting the violations of encroachment mafia. A list of houses being used for commercial purposes should also be submitted to the committee.

The committee directed the CDA to give encroachers at least 15-day time before conducting the operation.

Chief Commissioner Islamabad Aamir Ali Ahmed said the management had conducted anti encroachment operation without any discrimination.

Rehman Malik directed the chief commissioner Islamabad to submit a report of how many foreigners were residing in Islamabad. Shanty village’s inhabitants should be provided alternate lands and flats.

Rehman Malik stressed making effective laws to check child abuse cases in the country, saying over 18,000 child abuse cases have been reported from across the country in last four years.

He expressed its resolve to enforce capital punishment on child abusers. The committee directed provincial administrations to submit a detailed report of total number of child abuse cases reported across the country and how many were resolved.

Aamir Zulfikar told the committee that the girl Farishta was missed on May 15, and FIR was registered on May 19. The station house officer of the relevant police station had been arrested on negligence. The forensic report of the case is still awaited and cause of death can’t be ascertained right now.

He could not confirm the rape of girl Farishta. Highlighting Islamabad Police performance he said, the ICT police have registered a total of 76 cases, challans of 64 cases have already been submitted.
