NEW DELHI: India once again violated diplomatic etiquette as its security officials harassed guests at the Iftar dinner that was hosted by the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.

The details suggest that the guests were unnecessarily interrogated by the intelligence agencies upon their arrival, and some of them were not even allowed to enter the high commission.

The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi hosted the traditional ‘Iftar’ dinner Tuesday evening to celebrate blessings of the holy month of Ramzan.

Individuals from all walks of life, including political personalities, community notables, Sajjadah Nasheens of several Sufi shrines in India, academics, writers, journalists, artists, civil society activists, Pakistani students, and other prominent persons attended the dinner, it said in a statement.

Acting High Commissioner Syed Haider Shah welcomed the distinguished guests.

“While wishing them special blessings of Ramzan, Shah also highlighted the messages of sacrifice, selflessness, and compassion which are inculcated by fasting during the month of Ramzan,” the statement said.

“The traditional Iftar dinner is hosted annually at Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi to mark the holy month of Ramzan and promote the message of peace and harmony,” it added.

The guests were unnecessarily investigated by the Indian intelligence agencies upon their arrival, and some of them were not even allowed to enter the high commission.

Pakistan has decided to lodge a strong protest with India following the indecent event. It is worth mentioning here that the Pakistan High Commission’s guests were also harassed at Pakistan Day ceremony on March 23 by India.
