SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has strongly condemned the extension of judicial custody of illegally detained Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik by a National Investigation Agency court up to July 7.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the JRL in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the illegal detention of Muhammad Yasin Malik was being deliberately prolonged under political vendetta in violation of basic principles of democracy and humanity.

The JRL also denounced the continued detention of resistance leaders including Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Advocate Shahidul Islam, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Merajdin Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Shahid Yousuf, Zahoor Watali and women resistance leaders Aasiya Andrabi, Fehmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen by NIA and Enforcement Directorate.

All these leaders are languishing in Delhi’s Tihar jail for the past more than two years on baseless charges. The statement deplored that the leaders were not released despite the fact that these agencies had failed to bring any substantial evidence against them.

The JRL termed the prolonged detention of these leaders as political vendetta to break the resolve of resistance leadership. It urged the world organizations like Asia Watch, International Committee of Red Cross, Amnesty International and others to take serious steps in building pressure on India to ensure the release of all these detainees as well as those lodged in Kathua, Udhampur, Kotbhalwal and other jails for their political ideology.
