Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, in a message issued on the eve of 21st Youm-e-Takbeer, said that he made the country’s defence invincible on May 28 in 1998.

On May 28, 1998, Pakistan became a nuclear power after it successfully carried out five nuclear tests at Chaghi, Balochistan during the tenure of the then prime minister Nawaz Shairf.

“On this day the defence of the country was made invincible when Pakistan emerged on the world map as a nuclear power,” PML-N official Twitter handle quoted incarcerated former premier as saying.  “Youm-e-Takbeer is a day of nation’s honour.

When the day is a sign of nation’s unprecedented valiantness and bravery, it also gives a message to the country’s enemies that there would be dire consequences in case of any misadventure against Pakistan,” Nawaz added.

In a separate statement released from jail, the former premier said that he was being punished for making the country and economic power in the shape of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and conspiracies had been hatched against him by external forces.

“In the solitary confinement, I assure the nation that I had never compromised on the constitutional rights of the people, people’s right to vote and country’s security and sovereignty,” he said.

Reportedly, the Youm-e-Takbeer ceremony in Lahore on Tuesday will be chaired by PML-N Vice Presidents Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz. The ceremony will be attended by various party leaders.
