Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif is expected to arrive in Islamabad on Wednesday on a two-day official visit.

The visit is a first amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States. Diplomatic officials suggested that Zarif is expected to meet his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

FM Qureshi and his Iranian counterpart are likely to discuss regional stability, border security and bilateral trade.

The two foreign ministers will also deliberate on the two-day Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia from May 30 to 31.

During the two-day trip, Iranian FM is also expected to meet Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Last week, the top Iranian diplomat visited China in an attempt to expand regional outreach after the US hardened its anti-Iran stance and slapped sanctions on the country.
