SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, Indian police placed the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest, in view of shutdown and Eidgah chalo called by the resistance leadership on Tuesday.
According to Kashmir Media Service, complete shutdown and a march towards the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Eidgah in Srinagar will be conducted, tomorrow, to mark the martyrdom anniversaries of prominent liberation leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest to prevent him from leading the march towards the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Eidgah in Srinagar, tomorrow.
Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Srinagar on 21st of May 1990. 70 mourners were killed in Hawal area of the city when Indian troops opened fire on the funeral procession of the martyr.
On the same day, in 2002, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone was killed by unknown assailants when he was returning from Eidgah after addressing a public gathering.
The authorities have also imposed strict restrictions in different parts of Srinagar, today, to prevent a march towards martyrs’ graveyard at Eidgah in the city.
The Srinagar administration in a statement said that restrictions would be imposed in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of Nowhatta, SafaKadal, Rainawari, Maharaj Gunj and Khanyar police stations in Srinagar.
The authorities also ordered closure of all schools and colleges today on Tuesday.
