KARACHI: The 20-year-old girl, Bisma, who was kidnapped from Defence Housing Authority (DHA), returned home safely after paying the ransom money on Sunday.
According to police, Bisma was abducted from outside a house in Khayaban-e-Seher on May 11 by four armed men who later contacted the family through social media to demand the ransom. They revealed that she was the daughter of a businessman, and was returning home last weekend after having tea at a roadside restaurant in the area when she was kidnapped on gunpoint. She was driving the car while her driver was in the rear seat at the time of the incident.
“The girl reached her home on her own and did not have to be recovered,” the police further stated.
Speaking at a press conference at his office, SSP South Pir Mohammed Shah said that law enforcement agencies were doing their part for the kidnapped girl’s recovery but she returned home without the police’s involvement.
He said that “someone close to the family” may have a hand in the kidnapping as contacting them through social media was not usual in such cases and vowed that the criminals would be taken to task soon.
Earlier, it was reported that a huge amount of ransom was demanded from the girl’s family but police have said that the family did not give complete information to the officials.
Four unknown persons kidnapped the girl as the CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media.
South Zone DIG, Sharjeel Kareem Kharal while speaking to a local news outlet said that the police have taken several measures to prevent such incidents in future, including the deployment of policemen at all restaurants in DHA and Clifton areas to keep an eye on suspicious activities.
