Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday met with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and discussed matters of mutual interest.
The JUI-F chief welcomed the PPP stalwart where Zardari felicitated him over performing Umrah. The two leaders then exchanged views on the country’s political scenario.
Sources privy to the development hinted that the two leaders also deliberated on initiating an anti-government campaign after Eid.
The campaign may be led by the two leading opposition parties namely the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the PPP, sources further maintained.
During the campaign, the opposing parties intend to protest against the deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) along with the new wave of inflation in the country.
The PML-N has called on former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to lead a meeting on May 20 whereas the PPP may take their grievances to streets.
The JUI-F chief has agreed to participate in the campaign.
