PESHAWAR: An anti-corruption court on Friday sent Ishtiaq Muqam, son of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Amir Muqam, on judicial remand till May 30.
As the hearing began on Friday, accused Ishtiaq’s counsel complained before the court regarding federal minister Murad Saeed, alleging him of running a campaign against his client.
“Murad Saeed has written letters to various institutions, including National Accountability Bureau, for initiating inquiry against Ishtiaq. My client is being made a target of political vendetta”, the council maintained.
After hearing arguments of the parties, the court sent the accused on judicial remand till May 30.
Earlier on May 14, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested son of senior PML-N stalwart Amir Muqam for alleged corruption in Shangla-Alpuri Road project.
According to FIA, five contractors including Amur Muqam’s son Ishtiaq were nabbed after corruption inquiry into the affair concluded.
The inquiry recommends action against 11 high officials of National Highway Authority (NHA), blacklisting Amir Muqam and Company and recovering Rs626 million from the company.
As per the inquiry, Amir Muqam and Company had to complete the project within a year with Rs850 million, however, the project remained incomplete even after 10 years and the expenditures went past Rs2800million.
