International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde reportedly lauded the appointment of Reza Baqir as the head of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Imran Khan, reported a local media outlet.
Lagarde told me that Reza Baqir is the best officer, the PM told lawmakers during a meeting on Monday that was called to take allies and party leaders into confidence over changes in the government’s economic team.
In addition to IMF chief Lagarde, other Fund officials also spoke highly of Baqir’s credentials.
Reza Baqir, a former IMF official, was appointed as the governor of the central bank for three years ahead of the IMF bailout package.
Pakistan and IMF had finalised the bailout package after months-long talks pertaining to the size of the bailout package as well as conditions attached to it on Sunday.
