ISLAMABAD: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 1 in 3 Pakistanis (33%) believe inflation is the most pressing issue facing the country at the moment.
A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “What, in your opinion, is the most pressing issue Pakistan is facing right now?” In response, 33% said inflation, 19% said unemployment, 14% said corruption, 6% said poverty, 5% said energy crisis (electricity and gas), 7% said none and 8% said others. 8% did not know or wish to respond.
In urban areas, 34% of respondents said inflation, 17% said unemployment, 12% said corruption, 6% said poverty, 5% said energy crisis (electricity and gas), 13% said others and 2% said none. 11% did not know or wish to respond. In rural areas, 33% said inflation, 20% said unemployment, 15% said corruption, 5% said poverty, 5% said energy crisis (electricity and gas), 9% said none and 7% said others. 6% did not know or wish to respond.
The study was released by Gilani Research Foundation and carried out by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 1,480 men and women in urban and rural areas of all four provinces of the country, during April 21-April 30, 2019. The error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 percent at the 95% confidence level.
