Maryam condemns detention of Amir Muqam’s son by FIA

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday said that arrest of Ishtiaq Amir Muqam — son of PML-N leader Amir Muqam — by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), “at the behest of his political rivals, is blatant political victimisation”.

The PML-N leader took to Twitter and criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, asking it about the corruption worth billions in Peshawar Metro Bus project. Your day of judgment is also near, she added.

Maryam Nawaz said that nothing has been proven against PML-N leadership but, there are bulks of evidence against you, she continued.

Earlier, an anti-corruption court granted FIA three-day physical remand of Ishtiaq Ameer Muqam and four other accused over charges of corruption in a road construction contract.

Ishtiaq and other accused were sent on remand when they were produced before the court by FIA officials.

The accused persons have denied the charges in the court.

FIA officials told the court that the accused persons have failed to complete a project in 10 years which was estimated to be constructed within the period of one year. The officials said that national treasury received approximately Rs2 billion loss due to delay in road construction.

Earlier in the day, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested Ishtiaq Ameer Muqam over corruption charges.

According to the agency, Muqam’s son Ishtiaq among five contractors were arrested by the FIA soon after completion of an inquiry into alleged corruption in the construction of Alpuri Road in KP’s Shangla district.

“A case had also been registered pertaining to alleged corruption in the construction of the aforesaid road, with the concerned project director, contractors National Highways Authority (NHA) officials and engineers nominated in it”, sources said.

Sources further said the FIA has recommended departmental action against 11 NHA officials and blacklisting of Ameer Muqam and Company.
