Opp leaders criticise govt over amnesty scheme

–Marriyum says Imran has taken a U-turn on amnesty scheme

–Abbasi says incumbent govt copying PML-N govt’s policies

–Khursheed asks govt to explain why it is granting amnesty now

Opposition leaders on Tuesday strongly critcised the government over the amnesty scheme approved by the federal cabinet earlier in the day.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had taken a U-turn even on tax amnesty.

Commenting on the federal cabinet’s approval to the tax amnesty scheme, the PML-N leader claimed that the government took nine months to copy the PML-N‘s tax amnesty scheme, but it lacked the visionary leadership of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his experienced team to implement the scheme successfully.

She said that now all the illegal properties and returned goods would be legitimatised. By inflating the ‘Ehsaas Programme’, PM Imran accepted that mortgaging the country to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will increase poverty and the number of poor in the country, she added.

Former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that he hopes Imran does not take a U-turn on the amnesty scheme. “In the past, they attacked our amnesty scheme but now it seems fine to them,” he said. He said that the incumbent government is copying the policies of the PML-N government.

He also said that for the first time in the history of Pakistan, the IMF programme was given a political outlook.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Syed Khursheed Shah said that the government should explain why it is introducing the amnesty scheme and for which class of thieves and robbers this scheme is being introduced now.

He also said that the government should have talked about the IMF deal in the House but the premier did not say a word about the deal in front of the parliament.
