KARACHI: Political and nationalist parties of Sindh have raised their voice and demanded that President Alvi immediately remove Sindh Governor Imran Ismail for his statement regarding the division of Sindh.

Recently, Governor Imran Ismail, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), in a television programme said that the new provinces should be worked out in all the four provinces of the country including the Sindh.

The governor’s statement became controversial and brought on the wrath of political and nationalist parties and the public on social media.

On Thursday, political and nationalist parties’ activists as well as civil society members took out rallies in almost all parts of the province, chanted slogans against PTI and demanded the governor’s removal.

While talking to Pakistan Today, Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Information, Law and Anti-Corruption Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that the Sindh Assembly had given a clear message to all those dreaming about the province’s division.

“The governor’s office is a constitutional post and he should refrain from issuing political statements,” the advisor added.

“The governor’s statement about the division of Sindh is a mere attempt to divert the attention of the masses from failed policies of the PTI-led federal government,” Wahab further said.

Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) central leader and Sindh MPA Nusrat Sehar Abbasi told Pakistan Today that Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) leader Pir Pagara has time and again said that the PML-F and the people of Sindh would never accept the division of Sindh.

“The GDA condemns  Imran Ismail’s anti-Sindh statement and demand authorities concerned to remove him and install a new governor. We are with the people of Sindh and will always safeguard their rights,” MPA Nusrat Sehar Abbasi said.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Sindh leader Maulana Rashid Mehmood Soomro said that his party would never support anyone in dividing Sindh. “We talk for the rights of the people of Sindh and will fight with those against the unity of this province”, he said.

Qaumi Awami Tehreek (QAT) leader Ayaz Latif Palijo told Pakistan Today that international forces are active in balkanising Pakistan to establish a new Israel. “We will never allow any person to divide our motherland and Governor Imran Ismail should be removed henceforth,” Palijo added.

Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) Chairperson Sanan Qureshi said that Imran Ismail has no right to talk rubbish against the existence of a centuries-old culture and its people. “The governor has hurt the Sindhi’s by issuing a statement for the province’s division,” he said.
