NA passes motion to suspend rules for considering bill about increase in NA, PA seats

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Thursday passed a motion to suspend rules for consideration of the constitutional amendment bill aimed at increasing the number of tribal districts’ (ex-FATA) seats in National Assembly and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

The motion to suspend rules to consider the Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2019 was moved by an Independent lawmaker Mohsin Dawar belonging to North Waziristan (NA-48) which was passed by the House. The motion to consider the bill was passed through voice voting.

The bill would be later tabled in the House for second as well as third reading and two-third majority would be required to pass this Constitutional Amendment Bill.

Earlier, Chairman Standing Committee on Law and Justice Riaz Fatyana presented report of the Committee on the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2019. This report proposes an increase of tribal districts’ seats in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly from 16 to 20 and in the National Assembly from six to nine.

Parliamentary Secretary for Federal Education and Professional Training Wajiha Akram introduced the University of Islamabad Bill, 2019 which was referred to the relevant committee for further consideration.
