Proposal under consideration to impose charges on water extraction in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan on Tuesday told the Senate that a proposal was under consideration of Metropolitan Corporation to impose charges on extraction/installation of tube wells for commercial use in the federal capital.

Replying to a question during Question Hour, the minister said that there were 35 vehicles services stations in the Capital and a huge volume of water was being used on car washing.

MCI, CDA, ICT and environmental protection agency was working to devise certain rule and regulations for extracting ground water. These services stations were being encouraged to install recycle plants to save 80 per cent water, he added.

The minister said that 3 recycle plants with the assistance of UNDP had already been installed. The services stations were also being encouraged to adopt steam car washing to minimize water usage, he added.
