NAB arrests GM of LWMC in corruption scandal

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday arrested Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) General Manager Tahir Maqbool on charges of corruption.

Tahir Maqbool has allegedly awarded contracts worth millions to the contractors through illegal methods whereas, the accountability watchdog said that evidence of embezzlement of billion rupees was found during the initial inquiry.

According to a statement released by the bureau’s Lahore office, Tahir was working as GM procurement and contracts and has been arrested for further probe into the matter which points towards his favouritism in awarding contracts to people he had connections with thus, causing losses of millions to the national kitty.

One of these illegal contracts was awarded to Albarak without approval from the LWMC board of directors.

NAB Lahore would ask the court for physical remand of Tahir Maqbool on May 7.

It is pertinent to mention here that the bureau’s investigation team has also summoned Leader of Opposition Shehbaz Sharif in this case on May 13.
