Nurses continue protest across Sindh province

KARACHI: Nurses of Sindh under the banner of Sindh Nurses Alliance continued their protest and boycotted duties throughout the Sindh province on the sixth consecutive day on Saturday.

The nurses continued boycott of emergency departments, intensive care units (ICU), pediatric intensive care units (PICU), cardiac intensive care units (CICU), labour rooms and operation theaters and wards in all government hospitals of the province to raise their demand for approval of health professional allowance and promotion of nurses under four-tier formula.

The patients care in Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, National Institute of Child Health, Sindh Government Lyari General Hospital, Sindh Government Qatar Hospital and other hospitals badly affected due to protest of nurses.

The nurses of Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro, Shikarpur, Mithi, Jacobabad, Ghotki, Badin, Kashmor, Dadu and other cities and towns also boycotted duties as a protest.

The nurses of Karachi continued protest demonstration and sit-in outside the Karachi Press Club.

Central leader of Sindh Nurses Alliance Ejaz Ali Kaleri, while talking to PPI, held Sindh government responsible for prevailing situation and vowed to continue boycott till acceptance of their demands.

He demanded promotions of nurses under the four-tier formula, giving them health professional allowance, time–scale promotions, DDO powers for heads of nursing institutes and resolving nursing students’ issues on an urgent basis.
