Karachi University denies receiving ‘official’ sexual harassment complaint

KARACHI: Karachi University administration on Thursday denied the reports of receiving any “official” sexual harassment complaint against its faculty members and said that the complaint purportedly filed by its students was “fake”.

Earlier, it emerged that two Karachi University’s Mass Communication department professors were found involved in harassing their female students. A university spokesman, while commenting on the issue, acknowledged receiving a complaint however he said that the applicant’s signature on the application was “fake”.

He further added that the application was rather filed by a male student who is already facing disciplinary action.

“The complainant did not attach any kind of evidence to support ‘his’ complaint,” the spokesman said while adding that a meeting has been convened today (on Friday) to discuss the matter and take action against the “fake” complainant.

The application, which was signed by six students, had accused the professors of sending inappropriate messages to their female students on the social networking application WhatsApp.
