KARACHI: Two of the doctors accused of medical negligence over the death of infant Nashwa in a Karachi hospital, fled after a local court cancelled their bail in the case.

Dr Attiya and Dr Sharjeel, who were among the hospital officials arrested over the infant’s death last month, made their escape after a judicial magistrate cancelled their bail. The accused fled from the court premises after the hearing ended.

Nine-month-old Nashwa passed away after suffering brain damage, allegedly from the administration of an excessive quantity of an injection at Dar-ul-Sehat Hospital, located in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

According to a report by the Sindh Health Care Commission, the infant had been administered with an overdose of potassium chloride, not via a drip, at the hospital.

A first information report registered by her father stated that he had taken his twin daughters to the hospital for treatment of diarrhoea.

More than 20 people have been nominated as accused in the case.
