Steps being taken to protect journalists: CM Buzdar

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar said on Thursday that provision of the conducive working environment to journalists was a priority of the government and steps were being taken for providing them protection while on duty.

In his message on the World Press Freedom Day, being observed on May 3, the CM said that freedom of the press was linked with societal norm of responsibility. He said that journalists digging out the truth for the sake of public interest were praiseworthy and the present-day freedom of the press was the result of their longstanding struggle.

The independent media was the best critic and a reflection of society as the truth being the biggest reality, could not be concealed, he said.

The chief minister said that sacrifices rendered by journalists for the cause of press freedom would always be remembered, he said adding that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership strongly believed in the freedom of expression. He said that immediate action was taken on the public complaints, submitted through print, electronic and social media platforms.
