12 dead, 5 injured after passenger van catches fire in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: At least 12 people, including women and children, died while five others were scorched when a passenger van caught fire after hitting wall of toll plaza here in the federal capital on Monday.

According to details, a Rawalpindi-bound passenger van coming from Sargodha with 17 people on board got out of the driver’s control due to speeding and hit the wall of the Islamabad Toll Plaza. The vehicle soon caught fire, resulting in the deaths of 12 people, including two women and two minor girls.

The bodies and scorched people were shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) where condition of the wounded people admitted at burn unit of the hospital was also stated to be critical.

Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar expressed deep grief and sorrow over loss of precious lives and condoled with the bereaved families.
