Saindak project workers go on strike

QUETTA: Employees of Saindak Copper and Gold Project, a joint venture of Pakistan and China in Balochistan’s Chagai district, staged a sit-in in front of the Admin Block of the project in support of their demands.

The protesting workers are demanding a raise in their salaries and medical allowance. They said that the majority of employees receive Rs15,000 per month in salaries. They said if their salaries were not increased and other demands not addressed, they would expand the scope of their protest.

More than 1600 employees are working on the project.
