Pakistani-American chef Fatima Ali, who passed away earlier this year after a battle with cancer, was honoured with the James Beard Media Award in the Personal Essay, Short Form category on Saturday.

The essay in question was titled ‘I’m a Chef with Terminal Cancer. This Is What I’m Doing with the Time I Have Left’ which she had written in October 2018 for Bon Appetite magazine.
A ceremony for the awards is scheduled to be held on May 6.
The 29-year-old, who appeared on US TV show Top Chef, died after being diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that affects bone and soft tissue.
