NA speaker constitutes high-powered committee on national security

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) Speaker Asad Qaiser Friday constituted a high powered Parliamentary Committee on National Security with authority to discuss issues relating to National Security of urgent nature, implantation of National Action Plan and to monitor the process of transition from Military Courts to Civil Courts through criminal justice reforms.

According to the notification, the parliamentary body has been constituted in pursuance of the Motion adopted by the National Assembly and the Senate in their sittings held on 21st February and 1st March 2019, respectively.

The Committee comprises of leaders of parliamentary parties in the National Assembly and the Senate under the Chairmanship of the Speaker with composition and terms of reference (ToRs).

The committee would enjoy powers to discuss issues relating to National Security of urgent nature; To periodically review, monitor and oversee implementation of the National Action Plan with a view to ensuring its expeditious implementation; To monitor the process of transition from Military Courts to Civil Courts through criminal justice reforms; and to present periodical reports of the Committee to both Houses of the Parliament.

Besides the Speaker National Assembly, the Committee consist of Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi Minister for Foreign Affairs; Senator Azam Khan Swati, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs; Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication; Chaudhary Tariq Bashir Cheema, Minister for Housing and Works; Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Minister for Railway; Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif Leader of Opposition, MNAs Mr. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Mr. Asad Mehmood, Mr. Khalid Hussain Magsi, Mr. Muhammad AKhter Mengal, Mr. Ghous Bux Khan Mahar, Nawabzada Shah Zain Bugti, Mr. Amir Haider Azam Khan, Senators Mushahidullah Khan, Sherry Rehman, Muhammad Ali Khan Saif, Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Maulana Abdula Ghafoor Haideri, Muhammad Usman Khan Kakar, Sirajul Haq, Ms. Sitara Ayaz, Dr. Jeehanzeb Jamaldini, Syed Muzafar Hussain Shah, Mr. Anwar ul Haq Kakar and Mr. Aurangzeb Khan.
