IHC seeks reply from NAB in fake accounts case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday approved pre-arrest bail of several suspects named in fake bank accounts case.

Those who had applied for bail in the case included Munir Jillani, Muhammad Hussain, Ijaz Ahmed Khan, Malik Bashir Ahmed, Mir Muhammad, Ali Gul Kalwar, Syed Muhammad Ali Shah and Suhail Ali Memon.

The IHC bench also sought a reply from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the case.

During the hearing, Justice Aamer Farooq said around 60 applications seeking relief in the case was under process.

“We are trying to separately hear a case of suspects who are named in corruption references,” the judge remarked.

Lawyer representing one of the suspects, Malik Bashir, sought pre-arrest bail in the case for two weeks, however, the court insisted that the cast could be fixed for hearing on April 29, the same day when Asif Ali Zardari’s case will be taken up for hearing.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had received a reply of former president Asif Ali Zardari’s written reply in the fake bank accounts case on April 12.

Sources said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman submitted his reply to a questionnaire comprising 55 questions he was handed by the corruption watchdog during his appearance before it last month.

IHC earlier this extended former president Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur interim bail till April 29.
