NAWABSHAH: Truck Owners Association members and supporters held a protest demonstration here on Wednesday against an armed attack on a truck by robbers on the local bypass.
The protesters, led by Truck Owners Association President, said that in a bid to commit robbery, bandits fired shots on a tyre of a truck which was going to Badin from Jacobabad. They said that robberies from the goods transport had become a routine matter on highways of Sindh, which needed to be overcome by the police. They said that drivers of the trucks and other vehicles were feeling insecure while transporting goods from one destination to another through highways and roads.
They said that on one hand, the government was claiming to have reduced the crime in Sindh province, while on other hand, robberies were being committed in day and night with dare by robbers and bandits. All tall claims of reducing crime had turned fake practice, they added.
The protesters said: “It is the responsibility of the Sindh government and its home ministry to provide security along highways so that commuters and drivers could travel safely.” They said that despite complaints to police, there was no reduction in the robberies.
They demanded of the Sindh government and IGP Sindh police to take notice of the issue and take solid measures to overcome highway robberies so that commuters and drivers could take a sigh of relief from snatching and looting.
