The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is considering launching an investigation against Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar for alleged involvement in corrupt practices, a news channel reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, two applications accusing the chief minister of corruption were filed in the accountability bureau. It added that top officials at the bureau’s headquarters were aware of the matter and that they had ordered to take necessary action over it.

It was further revealed that Buzdar has been accused of getting a government helicopter insured for Rs70 million instead of Rs30 million, an amount that the provincial chief minister had ordered to be paid from supplementary grants.

Moreover, the chief minister is also being probed for allegedly illegally awarding an alcohol-sale permit to a private hotel in Lahore.

Meanwhile, Punjab government spokesperson Shahbaz Gill in his reaction to the development said the government helicopter was insured by an official government institution, National Insurance Company.

“There can be no financial embezzlement if it’s the government institution which is the insurance company,” Gill said.

“The disparity in figures is because we have to take dollar’s appreciation into consideration and the time span of insurance is one year and nine months.”
