Police rescue two female polio workers held hostage in Abbottabad

ABBOTTABAD: Two female polio workers of immunization team on Tuesday were confined in a house by a person named Faisal Shahzad when they knocked the door for anti-polio vaccination in district Abbottabad and later released after the police intervention.

Talking to APP, Dr Usama Shabeer in-charge anti-polio campaign said that an immunization team supervised by Malik Sajid was vaccinating in the area of Usman Abad area of Abbottabad. The team knocked the door of Faisal and asked for the children vaccination. The accused allowed the two female workers Yasmeen and Shabnam to get in the house and then confined them in a room.

Both ladies called the District Polio Control Room (DPCR) and police station Mirpur about the incident. The police immediately raided at the house and released both polio workers. An FIR was also registered by the anti-polio team and arrested the accused said Dr. Usma Shabeer.
