ISLAMABAD: PTI Chief Whip in the National Assembly Malik Aamir Dogar on Tuesday said that Civil Secretariat of South Punjab, a first step towards creation of new province, would be established in the first week of July 2019.
Speaking here on floor of the National Assembly, Malik Aamir Dogar said that previous governments did not take practical steps for creation of new provinces and the credit went to PTI, which raised voice for the rights of the people of the region. Dogar said that the PML-N had been politicking the issue for a long time but PTI led government would take steps for creation of South Punjab province as per its commitment to the people.
Earlier, the PML-N MNA Rana Sana Ullah Khan moved the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2019 (Article 1, 51, 59, 106, 154, 175A, 198 and 218) mainly aimed to create new province. The bill was not opposed by the Minister for Law and Justice Farogh Naseem and was referred to the relevant committee for further consideration.
On the issue, PPPP Leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that PPPP was the first one who took practical steps for creation of South Punjab province.
PML leader and Minister of Housing and Works Tariq Bashir Cheema stressed the need for creation of Bahawalpur province. He said Bahawalpur was a separate entity and it has nothing to do with south Punjab province. PTI MNA Muhammad Farooq Azam Malik also endorsed the creation of separate province of Bahawalpur.
