ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has begun preparations to fill the vacant positions in ministries and Establishment Division and has been advised by the federal cabinet to devise a criterion for the recruitment of grade 1 to grade 15 positions, Pakistan Today has learnt.

Well-informed sources revealed to Pakistan Today that the PTI government has decided to fill positions of grade 1 to grade 5 through balloting on a local basis and there would be no political influence in these recruitments.

“Similarly, the appointments of posts in grade 6 to grade 15 shall be made through testing agencies.  However, the services of testing agencies cannot be hired directly for recruitment purposes whereas, an appointment to these posts shall be made strictly in accordance with the provisions contained in the recruitment rules of the post concerned,” sources said.

It has also been learnt that these decisions were taken during the federal cabinet meeting held on April 17. in this regard, the Establishment Division had made a presentation which was shown to the federal cabinet on existing policy governing the hiring of testing agencies.

It is pertinent to mention here that the PTI government, prior to coming to power, had announced a grandiose plan of creating 10 million jobs. However, in the first eight months of its rule in the centre, the party has not been able to stem the rot in the domain of economy and resultantly the much-trumpeted pre-election promise of the present government could not be materialised either.

However, the recently held federal cabinet meeting had decided to take step towards materialising PTI’s pre-election promise to cope with unemployment by creating 10 million jobs.

Besides, a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report had earlier estimated requirements of some 1.3 million jobs every year to cope with the core issue of unemployment.

The report said that the country instantly requires some 3.5 million jobs to clear a backlog created due to unemployment over the years.

As per the UNDP report, combining the current unemployment figures of 3.5 million and additional requirements of 1.3 million brings the figure to the same target as fixed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in its manifesto.
