Sindh CM chairs Thar Coal Energy Board meeting

KARACHI: Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah on Saturday presided over the 20th session of the Thar Coal Energy Board (TCEB).

The meeting expressed its pleasure over the mining and power generation at Block-2 of the Thar Coalfield.

The licence for Block-1 of Thar Coalfield has been awarded to a Chinese company, which is working on a project of two power plants of 660 megawatt, the meeting was informed in briefing.

Block-1 licence of the coalfield has been awarded to Asia Power by international bidding, the board’s meeting was briefed.

The feasibility of the mining project has been completed and this company will also going to install two power plants of 660 megawatt power generation.

The TCEB meeting was informed that the licence for block-4 of the coalfield has been awarded to Oracle Coalfields, which will initiate work on the project in Year 2020.

Sindh chief minister told the meeting that Thar going to become the hub of jobs, industries and human resource in near future.

Thar coal fields being termed as the seventh largest coal deposits in the world, having 175 billion tons of reserves, which constitute 95 percent of the total coal reserves of Pakistan. Thar coal is of lignite quality, and perfectly suitable for electricity generation, experts said.

The coalfield have huge development potential, experts said. “In future even the development scale of Thar coal field is expanded to 100 million tons, it is sufficient to supply the fuel demand of Pakistan for several centuries,” an analyst claimed.
