Rasheed says will bring Asad Umar back to cabinet

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed on Saturday underscored the significance of sustainable economy for the development of Pakistan by stating that “a country is torn apart through attacks on its economy.”

Speaking to media persons at Railways Headquarters in Lahore, the minister said it was a conspiracy” that a massive amount of state’s money was spent on building roads and streets.

“Only one minister was terminated from the federal cabinet, while Asad Umar resigned himself,” he disclosed, adding that former finance minister Asad Umar had strived to improve the state of the economy; however, the premier has made a right decision.

Rasheed stated that he would himself approach Umar to persuade him to remain a part of the federal cabinet.

“When Imran Khan formed the government, the country’s resources were already plundered,” he said, adding that the premier would decide about the appropriate designations of the ministers.

Regarding the political career of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, he said they have no future.

“Only Shehbaz Sharif is calling for an NRO,” he reiterated.

He said that the current parliamentary form of the government should continue in the country, and anticipated that PM Imran Khan would complete five years of his tenure of the government.

He termed Pakistan Railways “a backbone of the state’s economy” and said ML1 would be signed soon in the presence of the prime minister. “Under ML1, trains will run with the minimum speed of 160km per hour. The travel time between Karachi and Lahore will be reduced to 8 hours.”

Rasheed concluded that under new projects of railways, 150,000 people would be recruited.
