The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday issued a notice to anchorperson Sami Ibrahim for stirring controversies involving senior high court judges and for accusing them of illegal practices.

Hearing a petition filed by Advocate Saqib Gujjar, Justice Amir Bhatti also issued a notice to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the same matter. The petition had contended that the anchorperson had allegedly scadalised LHC Chief Justice Sardar Shamim and Justice Malik Shahzad and had accused them of providing illegal relief to the leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

The petition added that the anchorperson had accused Justice Malik Shahzad of having close ties with PML-N because of which “illegal relief” was being provided to the party. The petition further highlighted the anchor’s drawing of a connection between the top judge of LHC and Nawaz Sharif as the former premier belongs to Raiwind and the top judge is a follower of the Tableeghi Jamat, the headquarters of which are located in the vicinity of Sharif’s residence.

The petition, therefore, sought contempt of court proceedings against the anchorperson.
