LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) foiled a bid to supply fake and substandard juices during the holy month of Ramzan and seized over 10,000-kilogram raw material here on Wednesday.

According to details, the PFA team on a tip-off during a search of a truck in Lahore recovered 10,000-kilogram raw material including food chemicals, food colours, starch and artificial colours.

The recovered material was being supplied to Lahore from Sargodha to use them for preparing fake and substandard juices for the upcoming month of Ramzan.

The PFA impounded the truck along with recovered ingredients which were disposed of later.

A case was registered against the owner and search for the production units was also underway.

The DG PFA has urged the masses to rely on homemade foods instead of moving markets to purchase the food items for ‘sehr’ and ‘iftar’.

He said that the PFA officials will continue to carry out inspections in factories, hotels, and eateries to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, hygiene standards and raw material quality.
