Five militants arrested in Karachi

KARACHI: Karachi Police on Monday claimed to have arrested five terrorists, associated with the outlawed Islamic State (IS) group also known as Daesh, during a raid in the metropolis’ Gulshan-e-Maymar area.

According to the Malir senior superintendent of police (SSP), the police, acting on secret information, conducted a raid at a hideout of the terrorists in the Taiser Town.

Explosive material, arms and ammunition and laptops were recovered from the possession of the held militants who were identified as Abdullah alias Hamza, Wasim, Naveed, Waqar and Muddasir.

The SSP Malir said the suspects were involved in radicalisation and indoctrination of people by way of social media platforms.

An FIR has been registered against the arrested terrorists as a further probe is being carried out, he added.

Last week, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Karachi Police had arrested a wanted terrorist of outlawed Jundullah terror group.

Arrested terrorist Mohammad Ishaq alias Gul was named in the red book, CTD chief Raja Umar Khattab had told the media in Karachi. Police recovered a suicide jacket and a hand grenade from his possession, the police officer said.

According to the officer, the alleged terrorist had entered in Balochistan from Afghanistan and then arrived in the interior of Sindh.

He had come to Karachi for a major terrorist attack in the metropolis, the CTD in-charge officer claimed.

Ishaq alias Gul was a neighbour of Ataur Rehman alias Naeem Bukhari of banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi terrorist group, he said.
