GAMBAT: Over 800 villages of district Khairpur are hit by power load-shedding of 6 to 18 hours within 24 hours on daily basis amid heat wave, making life of people miserable, PPI learnt Sunday.

“Despite claims of Naya Pakistan by Prime Minister Imran Khan, the people of Khairpur district continued to suffer from power outages caused by SEPCO. The power load shedding upto 18 hours is being carried out in all villages of this district while cities and towns undergo 6 hours load shedding on daily basis. The business, social and education activities are badly affected due to power outages while heat has hit people hard, affecting their health,” a social leader of Gambat talkua, Ali Gul, told PPI.

There is no respite in power outages despite formation of Imran Khan’s government in the country, who used to make big claims during sit-ins that power load-shedding would be brought under control when he came to power. This hot weather sometime costs human lives. Worst sufferers are children. Hot weather keeps many people to stay homes. The load-shedding and warm weather have made the life of people miserable. There is need to bring halt in load-shedding so that people could take a sigh of relief.  Khairpr district also has hot climate, characterised by very hot and hazy summers.

Dry heat is experienced starting April to early June until the monsoon season starts to arrive here. Monsoons are not very wet, but bring high dew points, resulting in high heat indices. In Khairpur district, 2.4 million population is being hit hard by power load shedding. Khairpur’s today temperature at 2:00 pm was 44 degrees centigrade. Severe heat hit villages and towns. People were compelled to stay homes.

“The power load shedding upto 18 hours is being carried out in all villages of 86 union councils of the Taluka Gambat that include Razi Dero Kacho, Noor Pur, Sagyoon, Ripri, Kamal Dero, Khemtia, Jadowahan and Belharo.  However, at least 6 hours load shedding is carried out in towns including Gambat, Agra, Sobhodero, Ranipur, Padidan, Tando Masti, Khairpur, Mirwah, Kot Diji, Kingri, Sobho Dero, Kot Banglu, Faiz Ganj and Nara,” Fahim Khuhro, a resident of village Satabo told PPI.

In these towns, business, education and social activities are badly affected. People pass life in trouble as the towns are warmer than villages. They live in congested houses with no trees and suffer too much due to warm weather. Business as well as social activates are badly affected due to lingering power outages since last 15 years. However, villages have some relief due to more trees. It seemed that there is no merciful leader, who can resolve this issue. Khairpur is native district of Syed Qaim Ali Shah, who could even not resolve this issue during his chief ministership eras. Neither Nawaz Sharif and PPP government nor PTI government could resolve this issue till today. It seems that they had no responsibility in this regard.

Imran Khan during political campaigns on containers and election drive have made big claims of resolving power outages issue, but there is not progress yet as 6 to 18 hours power outages hit people hard, making their lives miserable.   Residents of different villages including Razidero, Dilawar and Sitabo said their agriculture depends on tube-wells which needed electricity but due to power outage up to 18 hours, their crops had been affected.
