ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said on Thursday that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government faced no threat from opposition long marches and sit-ins.
Talking to a media channel, the minister said that politics of Maulana Fazalur Rehman has lost steam.
Replying to a question, he said that only those politicians were being followed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) who ruled the country in the past and were involved in loot and plunder of national resources.
The minister said that from 1947 to 2008 Pakistan’s total foreign loan stood at $ 37 billion but from 2008 to 2018, in 10 years, the foreign loan crossed whopping figure of $ 97 billion.
He said that during 10 years of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) rule, additional $ 60 billion were added in the foreign loan and the question arises where all that money had gone.
Chaudhry Fawad said that from $ 37 billion, Islamabad city was built, mega projects like Mangla and Tarbela dams, naval bases, Gwadar port and motorway were constructed and Pakistan Army was equipped with modern weaponry, whereas $ 60 billion loan taken during 2008 to 2018 was plundered by the former rulers.
He said that Imran Khan was given the mandate on the slogan of accountability and the masses wanted that those who plundered national wealth should be taken to task.
To a question, he said Pakistan has great potential in tourism sector following the introduction of new visa regime by the present government.
He said that Malaysia and Turkey have been earning $ 20 and $40 billion per year respectively from tourism.
The minister said that Pakistan having diversified tourism attractions including high mountain peaks, beaches and religious tourism would become major attraction for tourists from all over the world.
He said that Jhelum had several historical sites including Rohtas Fort and the site of the battle between the armies of Alexander the Great and Raj Porus.
He said that entire Potohar was very important from tourism viewpoint. Main religious sites of Bhuddhism and Jain religion were also in Potohar, he added.
