Chinese envoy discusses CPEC with naval chief

ISLAMABAD: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing on Thursday called on the Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mehmood Abbasi in Islamabad.

According to the naval spokesperson, both the dignitaries discussed defence and maritime cooperation between Pakistan and China and matters pertaining to maritime security of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The naval chief apprised the Chinese envoy about the role of Pakistan Navy in enduring peace and stability in the region. Jing also appreciated Pakistan Navy’s contributions to regional security.

Earlier, Ambassador Yao Jing also called on Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar to discuss CPEC related issues.

According to an official statement, during the meeting both the dignitaries agreed to continue momentum on CPEC.

The Chinese envoy had appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to fast-track CPEC projects particularly the groundbreaking of the western route. Bakhtiar lauded Chinese support for the implementation of Gwadar airport project.

Khusro Bakhtiar had said that the development of Gwadar was the top priority of the incumbent PTI government.

He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan, in his recent visit to Balochistan performed groundbreaking of Rs65 billion Zhob-Kuchlak section of the western route, Rs17 billion project of the transmission line for Makran coast, Rs23 billion new Gwadar Airport project, hospital as well as the vocational institute.
