Crime Branch gets new name

KARACHI: A meeting of Sindh police high-ups, chaired by Sindh IGP Dr Syed Kaleem Imam here on Thursday, decided in principle to rename the Crime branch as Crime and Investigation Branch and strengthen it on scientific lines.

The meeting further agreed to upgrade the Sindh Police’s School of Investigation and to appoint the concerned staff (along with those of its training branch) in accordance with modern-day requirements.

Concrete recommendations in particular context of capacity building and salary package of cops associated with the department’s Crime branch was decided to be forwarded to the government.

It was agreed that monitoring and other affairs of the Superintendent Police – Crime will be inter-linked with other offices of the department and that IT section will develop a software to facilitate the process.

Crime and Investigation branch was authorized to monitor affairs related to forensic and criminal record office respectively.

The meeting was briefed by DIG- Crime and attended by Additional Inspectors General (Establishment and Special Branches), Deputy Inspectors General (Finance, Training and Operations) along with CPO -Traffic (Karachi), CPO – Logistics, CPO – Finance and CPO – Estate and Management.

Consequent to the briefing it was agreed that all SSPs – Crime will be provided with mobile laboratories so as to secure evidence collected from the crime scene and conduct an effective investigation.

Investigation specific mobile units were also decided to be constituted at district level coupled with the provision for adequately approved investigation bags for officers assigned with the task.

Moreover, every police station in the province would be equipped with audio-visual recordings and would necessarily have dedicated investigation rooms followed by a system to audit performance of the concerned police personnel.
