Court extends Khawaja brothers’ judicial remand by 14 days

LAHORE: An accountability court on Thursday extended the physical remand of former railway minister Saad Rafique and his brother Salman Rafique by 14 days in Paragon Housing Scheme scandal case.

Khawaja brothers were presented before the court as their judicial remand ended. The court then extended their remand by 14 days.

Talking to media outside the court, Saad Rafique stated that the government has been handed over to the incapable people. “The finance minister has stated that country is bankrupt then who will invest here?” Rafique said while taking a jab at Asad Umar, adding that Imran Khan has said that he will make us cry but he is making every Pakistani cry.

On March 12, NAB) decided to file another supplementary reference against  Saad Rafique for possessing assets disproportionate to his declared sources of income.

The anti-graft watchdog, investigating the matter, has found substantial evidence against Rafique and that millions of rupees were transferred into his bank account.

The reference alleged that the assets were “disproportionate to his known sources of income for which he could not reasonably account for.”

Earlier on March 4, an accountability court extended his and his brother Khawaja Salman Rafique’s judicial remand till March 19 in the Paragon Housing Society scam.

Accountability judge Syed Najmul Hasan had presided over the hearing of the case in which the Khawaja brothers have been accused of embezzling nearly Rs2 billion.

A heavy contingent of police was deployed around the court to prevent party workers from disrupting law and order situation.

Meanwhile, counsel of Khawaja brothers complained against the bureau for causing disruption in security management during the case hearings.

The court remarked that superintendent of police (SP) of headquarter was summoned and the matter would be resolved.
