Two transgender persons injured in Peshawar drive-by shooting

PESHAWAR: Two persons of the transgender community was injured by gunfire on Monday by unknown assailants, police officials reported.

The police in their official report, said that the victims-named Adnan and Kamran- where residents of the Shabqadar area and were going from Shama Plaza in Nothia to Dabgari Garden when the shooters opened fire on them.

Kamran was unhurt but Adnan sustained a bullet injury in his back and was immediately taken to Lady Reading Hospital by the police. According to the hospital’s doctors, his condition is now stable and he is out of danger.  The doctors also said that another bullet narrowly missed Adnan’s head, causing a flesh wound.

Trans Action Pakistan claimed that doctors at the hospital started treating Adnan three hours after he was brought to the medical facility.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Qazi Jamilur Rehman, took notice of the attack on the members of the marginalized community and has formed a committee under the leadership of Waseem Riaz, the Superintendent of police (SP) for Peshawar Cantt.

As of yet, the identity of the attackers and the cause of the assault remains unknown. Hence, the police haven’t lodged a case yet, nor have they made any arrests.
