KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Kaleem Imam on Tuesday submitted his reply in Sindh High Court (SHC) through government’s prosecutor pertaining to a petition filed against the arrest of PPP leader former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain in 2015 by the Pakistan Rangers.
The court heard the petition filed by Dr Zareen, wife of Dr Asim Hussain, which said that Dr Asim’s arrest by the Rangers was illegal. It challenged the Ranger’s law to keep an accused in custody for three months.
IGP Sindh in his reply said that there was no connection of Sindh police with the arrest of Dr Asim. “Sindh Police is performing its duties as per law,” he said.
He said that in the application, no clear allegation on IG Sindh was levelled by petitioner. He pleaded the court to remove IGP Sindh’s name from the petition.
The home secretary and Rangers have submitted their replies on the petition.
Ranger’s prosecutor Sajjad Mehboob said that Rangers had submitted reply in the petition one year ago.
However, the Rangers had submitted its reply in the previous hearing, which claimed that they had arrested the Dr Asim on the charges of treating and harbouring militants and gangsters in his hospital.
The court, later, adjourned the hearing till April 30.
