IGP orders tight security for Bhutto’s death anniversary

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Dr Syed Kaleem Imam on Sunday directed police officials that foolproof security arrangements should be ensured for the 40th death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

In a statement, police said that the IGP instructed that a contingency plan is devised in this regard which should be implemented in letter and spirit.

Kaleem said that a number of people would expect to attend the death anniversary at Ghari Khuda Bux from Sindh as well as other provinces.

He directed that there should be effective patrolling, picketing and snap checking along the border areas as well as on the Ghari Khuda Bux-Naudero route.

The IGP instructed that encroachments be removed along with the main routes of Ghari Khuda Bux.

He also directed the bomb disposal squad to ensure the process of sweeping and clearance for the ceremony.

IGP further said: “It is the need of the hour that we ensure a people-friendly environment at every level in order to bring an improvement in performance of the Police Department. Any negligence and carelessness during police duties will not be tolerated.”
