KARACHI: The teachers of government schools from across Sindh ended their protest after the provincial government accepted their demands in a meeting on Friday.
Matric exams across the province will be held as scheduled starting April 1.
The teachers had said on Thursday that they will not individuate the exam papers till their demands are met. They have been asking for regularisation of their employment and a change in their timings.
Three members of the teachers’ association held a meeting with Sindh Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah. The teachers said they wouldn’t back down till their demands were met.
Government officials said, however, had said that they won’t be blackmailed and the exams will continue as per schedule.
On Friday, some teachers showed up to the protest wearing flower garlands. “We want to show that we believe in peace,” a teacher explained.
Another protester said that they are going on a hunger strike. “We are the people of the PPP. The government should listen to the demands of our teachers,” he said.
After the meeting, the teachers announced ending their protest and dispersed from outside the Karachi Press Club.
